On June 25, 1927 she and Henry G. Bartels were married at Fort Pierre by Rev. J. Charles N. Pengelly. They then farmed in Lyman County, south of Fort Pierre, on a farm adjoining Henry's older brother, Albert.
Edith was the mother to five sons: Robert, Larry, John, Edward, and Richard. After retirement they moved to Pierre, where Henry preceded her in death by more than 14 years. She was survived by all of her children except Richard.
