Obituary, The Lodi Sentinel, 11 Aug 1928: Funeral services for Gottfried Yanke who died in Stockton Thursday morning as the result of falling under a Southern Pacific freight train will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the chapel of Hale and Bawden with Rev. G.E. Lohn, pastor of the German Baptist church officiating. Interment will be made in the Lodi cemetery. Yanke was attempting to board a freight train at Market and Washington streets in Stockton Wednesday when he slipped and fell under the wheels. He was taken to Emergency Hospital where his right leg was amputated above the knee and his left foot above the ankle. He was a native of Russia, aged 59 years. He was the father of Jacob Yanke, Walla Walla WA.; Mrs. Lucy Fry, Mrs. Pauline Mettler, Lodi; Mrs. Frieda Berg, Manteca; Mrs. Katie Lavin, John Yanke, Gottfried Yanke and William Yanke, all of San Francisco.
