WINNFIELD -- Rufus A. Clewis, 72, local retired lumberman, died in the Winnfield General Hospital Sunday night.
He was a native of Georgia, but had made his home in Winnfield for the past 25 years. Before his retirement he was a senior hardwood lumber inspector in Louisiana and Arkansas for the Southern Hardwood Lumber Assn. of Memphis. He had a wide acquaintance in hardwood lumber circles in the South.
Funeral services were held at Hixson's chapel here Tuesday morning with the Rev. L. L. Booth officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery, under the direction of Hixson Bros. Funeral Home.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Leona Dark Clewis; one stepson, Jack Sowers; two stepdaughters, Mrs. A. B. Warner, Columbia, and Mrs. Mervin Wardlow of Montgomery three brothers, J. J. Clewis, Macon, Ga., O. E. Clewis, Jacksonville, Fla., and W. C. Clewis, Miami, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. J. D. Short, Pinehurst, Ga., Mrs. J. M. Dewpree, Bryonville, Ga., and Mrs. A. L. Servell, Newman, Georgia.
