Genevieve C. Beck

Our sister, aunt and friend, Genevieve Catherine Beck passed to her heavenly reward on Saturday, Feb. 25 after a long illness of almost three years.
Genevieve was born to John Louis Beck and Mary Rosalia Hickey in Victoria and baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She attended Nazareth Academy and graduated in 1932 with her dear and loving classmates.
After graduation she enrolled in Victoria Jr. College while at the same time working as a secretary.
She began teaching 1st through 5th grades at Arenosa Elementary in 1936 until 1943.
She and her brother Lawrence attended the 1936 Texas Centennial Celebration in Dallas together. It was a joyful experience she and her brother enjoyed together.
In Houston she joined an oil company as secretary, The American Republics. Later she served as an agent with the National Maritime Seaman's Union retiring after serving 20 years.
She had more than one hobby, one was sharing her home with family, nephews, nieces, and friends. She was a very good cook, she loved to go fishing and be with friends, reading and continuing education and deepening her spirituality.
Another great joy in the life of Genevieve was being chosen to be a Eucharistic minister at St. Christopher Church in Houston where she served faithfully for many years.
She was a person who never asked anything of anyone else instead she gave of herself without being asked.
Of her many priest and religious sister friends one, as an example was Fr. Humberto Oliveri, whose mission to the Otomi Indians in Mexico. She helped establish a Dollar a Month Club for his financial support.
She supported many other causes, too many to mention here.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at Colonial Funeral Home at 7 pm. The Mass of the Resurrection at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral will be celebrated on Thursday at 2 pm
