Melvin was the first child of Elmer Samuel Billings and Susan Aletha Smead. Born in Lubbock, Texas. He married Doris Law and they had two children, a boy b 1942 and a daughter, b 1944. The family moved to Clovis, NM where Melvin owned a furniture store. Uncle Melvin was a snappy dresser. I remember seeing him when he would come to California where his sister and her family, his mother and my dad and our family lived. In fact I never saw him without a wonderful suit and tie on. This would have been the 1958-1960s. When my Dad had cancer in the 1980s Uncle Melvin was there to comfort him. I will always be grateful to him for that.
