William had plans to be a history teacher after completing his military obligation.
Upon arriving in Vietnam 1 March 1968, William was assigned to D Company, 1st Battalion, 22nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, USARV. The battalion was participating in Operation Mac Arthur in Darlac Province and were in the vicinity of Duc Lap, when hostile forces launched a mortar attack. William died as a result of shrapnel wounds to the body.
SSgt Davis served his country for 2 days.
Survived by his parents, Edgar L Davis Jr and Virginia Davis of Route #1 Box 1240, Haines City, Florida, and his brother; Daniel Thomas Davis with the US Army in 1968.
