THE FRANS ANDERSON FAMILY
Frans Gustav Anderson (1863-1952) came to Minnesota from Upland, Sweden in 1881. He had several jobs on farms, factories and railroads. He purchased a farm 3 miles east of Miltona, in Spruce Hill Township in Douglas County. He met Clara Beata Larson (1885-1937), who was from Västergötland, Sweden. She had arrived in the United States about 1880. They met in Spruce Hill at a friend's home. They were married December 24, 1886 at the boarding home and hotel of the Johannes and Clara Ostlund's in Alexandria where Frans had been boarding. They made their home on the farm that Frans had previously purchased. This farm is still operated by the Delton Melzers (ca. 1980) Frans G. was very active in community affairs. He was a school board and township board member and was also a pioneer worker of the Evangelical Free Church in Spruce Hill. (aka Rose City Evangelical Free Church) He was one of the charter members and held the position of lay pastor for many years.
Five children were born to the Frans Andersons: Hulda S., Esther C., Ruth E., Arthur S., and Lydia E.
1. Hulda Sophis (1887-1943) who remained unmarried, had been a school teacher and one of the schools that she had taught in was the old Dist. #66 in Spruce Hill Township.
2. Esther Cecelia (1889-1959) married Albin Anderson of Lowry. She was also a schoolteacher and had taught in a rural school near Holmes City. They had four children: Clarice of Lowry, (Pope county, MN) Wilbert of Lowry, Harvey (he and his wife are missionaries (ca. 1980) in Venezuela, South America with the Evangelical Free Church of America Overseas Mission); and Archie of Lowry.
3. Ruth Elfreda (1891-1958) was unmarried. She taught in various rural schools in Douglas County, Minnesota. Among those were Dist. #66 and #51 and also schools near Holmes City and Garfield, most of her life was spent in Kennedy. (in Kittson Co. MN?)
4. Arthur Simeon (1892-1977) married Edith C. Fredman, a daughter of Carl Fredman of Spruce Hill Township. Arthur S. served as an infantryman in the army in France during World War 1. He farmed in the original Frans Anderson farm. He was active in community affairs serving on school and church boards. Helling of Los Angeles; Kenneth (died in infancy); Arlie E. farms in Spruce Hill; Merlyn V. teaches high school mathematics in Phoenix, Arizona, and Eldred D. farms in Spruce Hill.
