The Funeral Of Joyce R. Turpin, 61, of 202 W. Locust St., Bloomington, will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Second Presbyterian Church Marquis Chapel, Bloomington. The Rev. Philip Queen will officiate. Burial will be in Funks Grove Cemetery, McLean. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Beck Memorial Home and one hour before the service at the church.
She died at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday (Aug. 19, 1997) at her home.
Memorials may be made to Home Sweet Home Mission.
Surviving are one son, Tom Turpin, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two sisters, Helen J. Burnham and W. Jean Moreland, both of Akron, Ohio; and one brother, Raymond L. Burnham, Hayword, Calif.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jacob W. Turpin and Mathew A. Turpin, both of Gridley; and Ashley M. Turpin, Bloomington; a daughter-in-law, Robin Turpin, Bloomington; and a sister-in-law, Judy Turpin Horth, Lake Ariel, Pa.
Preceding her in death were one son, James L. Turpin; and one brother, Dewey L. Burnham.
She was born Feb. 16, 1936, in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Ruben L. and Leona J. Samples Burnham. She married John L. "Jack" Turpin Sept. 29, 1957, in Akron, Ohio.
Mrs. Turpin moved to Bloomington in August 1959. She was a Realtor in Bloomington-Normal for 22 years and also worked for Larry Hundman for 18 years before retiring in October 1988 because of health reasons.
She had been resident council president at Phoenix Towers, a member of the Phoenix Towers Chime Choir and co-wrote a cookbook for a Phoenix Towers fund-raiser. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and a past member of the church choir. A Cub Scouts den mother for several years, she was also active in fund-raising for the American Heart Association and on the Board or Realtors for several years. Over the years, she was a member of several bridge clubs.
