Mrs. McNown, who had resided in Wells County since 1934, worked in several retail stores in Bluffton. Her late husband, Andy, taught in the Bluffton schools from 1934 to 1969.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bluffton where she was a past president of the Altar Rosary Society, and a member of Tri Kappa Sorority. For several years she gathered news items for the News-Banner.
She was born in New York, NY October 25, 1905, a daughter of George and Lola Stoops Noonan. Her marriage at Bloomington, Indiana on November 26, 1926 was to Edwin “Andy” McNown, who died October 17, 1989.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William (Ann) Mallers of Bass Lake and Marcia Cook of Bluffton; a brother-in-law, Hugh McNown of North Manchester; a sister-in-law, Jane Zent of Marion, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A brother is deceased.
Services at 11 am Thursday will be at Thoma/Rich, Hewitt & Chaney Funeral Home in Bluffton where calling hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 8 pm. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
Memorials to the Wells County Commerce, Arts and Visitors Center or to the Wells Community Theatre.
