Otto S. Abernathy, 69, of Charleston, Illinois, died at 10:56 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton.
He was born May 21, 1941, in Bicknell, Indiana, son of the late Marvin Abernathy and Mattie (Gibbs) Abernathy Tomberlin.
On February 5, 1981, he and Laurel E. Brazzell were married in Charleston. She survives in Charleston.
Otto retired from Fabrionics as a materials handler. He had a tremendous sense of humor and enjoyed being an agitator. He loved drag racing and anything electronic and was a recently converted Cubs fan.
In addition to his wife of 29 years, he is survived by seven daughters, Diana, Christine, Mindy, Sherry, Shelly, Lindy, and Linda; and a son, Jeffery; as well as 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty, Mary, and Nancy; and four brothers, Paul, Jim, Elmo, and Sammy.
Services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory.
