Mr. Allen, 89, died Dec. 28, 2003, in Lawrence County. He was born in Lincoln County on May 24, 1914, to Augustus Allen and Artemis Furlow Allen.

He was a retired farmer and construction worker. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Helen Lanelle Allen Allen; a son, Tommy Allen; a daughter, Lynda McGuffee; two sisters; three brothers; and four great-grandchildren, Donna Coleman, Amy McGuffee, and Hailey and Hannah McWhorter.

Survivors are his daughter, Pat Carr of Alexandria, La.; his sons, Johnny Allen of Monticello, and Kenneth Joe Allen of Duluth, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
