Darrell E. Anderson, 91, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen.

Darrell was born May 15, 1918 in Lincoln County, South Dakota to Herman T. and Martha M. Anderson. He graduated from La Feria High School in 1938 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 3 years and 8 months in the European Theatre and in the states served in Normandy Invasion. Darrell was employed with Central Power & Light as a lineman at the beginning of his career and then as a distribution line foreman and retired on June 1, 1983 after 38 years of dedicated service. Darrell was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Harlingen, Texas. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #1889, V.F.W. Post 2410, American Legion Post 205 all in Harlingen, Texas and the AEP Golden Kilowatts Retiree Club. Darrell enjoyed helping others, especially donating to children's homes and having meetings with his Coffee Buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Cladda Mae (Jerry) Anderson on March 24th, 1983.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Nellie Anderson, step-children Virginia Nell (James) Oakes of Harlingen, TX and Virgil W. (Glenda) Sharp of Bulverde, TX; a special angel who made his life happy, great step niece Shelby Lynn McMurray; sisters, who he loved so much Gwen J. Little of Austin, Texas formerly of Weslaco, TX and Marvis L. Jean of Cedar Park, TX. Also surviving him are his step grandchildren, John (Birdie) English of San Antonio, TX, Michelle Atkinson of Brenham, TX and Michael W. Sharp of Bulverde, TX; five step great grandchildren; nephews, Morgan Little of Dripping Springs, TX, Steve Jean of Dallas; special niece, Martha Vinsent of Cedar Park, TX; and several nieces and nephews, Erick, Suzanne, Melanie, Laura and Trey Little.

Visitation will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Friday, November 27, 2009 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wade Peyton officiating. Interment will follow at Harlingen-Combes Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 205.

Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Central Power and Light and all retirees of Central Power and Light.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the First Assembly of God Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 530128 Harlingen, Texas 78553, the Shriners Hospital 6977 Main, Houston, Texas 77030 or a charity of choice.
