William married Anna Bevier in 1866 and she died a few months after daughter Louisa is born. It seems as though William cannot take care of his daughter, and moves around as a traveling salesman perhaps? Some believe he dies in Kansas, though it could be Illinois. He is either buried here at Toulon Cemetery and this is just a memorial to him. We believe his daughter Louisa had this built, as she is the only child.

Mr. William (Billy) Culbertson, once of Toulon, is lying very low at his home in western Kansas. His mother, Mrs. J. A. Cooley, started last Monday to see him.
