Mrs John Viel Dies Suddenly
Last Tuesday evening at the homes of her daughter near Rose Creek, Minn., Grandma Viel was quite suddenly taken away from the realms of this earthly life. Her death was attributed to heart trouble and the complications of old age. Her remains were brought to the home of her son Henry near New Hartford and funeral services were held from the Stout church were interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, at Parkersburg.

Mrs John Viel nee Etta Nuis was born in Oosterwald, Netherlands, on Feb. 8, 1858. At the age of 18 she was married to Jurgen Boelmann. There both Mr and Mrs Boelmann toiled and labored and reared a large family of 14 children. Of these 12 are still living; one died in infancy and one son, Jerry, died after an accident at his home in Kalamazoo, Mich., several years ago.

It was very interesting to listen to Grandma Viel's life story, but the hardships and the poverty she had to endure only seemed to strengthen her faith in Devine Providence, and no matter how small her means she was always ready and willing to divide with those less fortunate.

1908 they came to this country and settled near Stout, later moving to a farm near Parkersburg. In the Spring of 1918 the husband and father passed away.

She labored faithfully on, assisted by some of her younger children. In 1924 she was married to John Viel at Coster, later moving to the vicinity of Parkersburg. Both Mr and Mrs Viel always had a heartfelt interest in the affairs of their children. In June, 1933, her second husband was also taken from her suddenly, dropping dead while busily at work. After his death Grandma Viel made her home with her children for several months, but then established a home of her own on the farm of her son Henry where she lived intermittently for three years. She will be missed by her children, but she has no more cares, no more worries, no more sacrifices and no more sadness.

The following children are left to mourn her death; Eilert and Mrs Minnie Adams of the Netherlands, and those in this country are Mrs Henry Ouderkerk of Rose Creek, Minn.; Mrs John DeRaad, Hollandale, Minn; Stoffer and Mrs Sabo Bolhuis of Vicksburg, Mich.; Corneil of Britt; George and Mrs Rick Ooster of Shell Rock; Mrs Geo. DeGroot of Dike; Mrs Fred Bolhuis of Parkersburg, and Henry of New Hartford; also five step-children; Henry Viel of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Harm, George and John Viel of Winnebago, Ill., and Mrs W. Smith of Oakland, Minn.

Funeral services were largely attended Saturday afternoon, especially by friends and relatives from a distance. The men's quartet sang several selections and her pastor, Rev. W. Heyenga, spoke briefly, basing his thoughts on the words of St. John, chapter 8, verse 51. " If a man keep my saying he shall never see death.:

Six of her grandsons acted as pallbearers, namely Lewis DeGroot, Will Adams, Eilert Ouderkerk, Jerry Boelmann, Nanko DeRaad, Jerry DeRaad.

Present from a distance were Mr and Mrs Stoffer Boelmann and Mr and Mrs Sabo Bolhuis and two boys of Vicksburg, Mich., Mrs Jennie Boelman and son Jerry and Mr and Mrs John Boelmann of Kalamazoo, Mich., the Henry Ooderkerk family of Rose Creek, Minn., John DeRaad Sr. family, Mr and Mrs J.
