EARLY STAGE DRIVER PASSES AT SPRINGS
Lewistown, Dec. 26 - Frank Engelman of Danvers, one of the early-day stage drivers of this section and for close to 40 years a resident of Fergus county died while visiting at the home of Claude Merrill near Forest Grove. Death came very unexpectedly during the night while all were asleep.
Mr. Engelman, accompanied by his wife, who is the only immediate relative to survive him (he had three surviving sisters!), had been visiting at the Merrill home near Forest Grove the past three days. Wednesday night when they retired, he was apparently in the best of health, death coming as a complete and sad surprise some time during the early morning hours.
The deceased came to Montana over 38 years ago from Iowa, settling first in the Plum creek section, moving into Lewistown a few years later and for several years thereafter drove the stage between Lewistown and Billings. About 25 years ago he worked for George Stafford as harnessmaker, that being his trade. After the old stage coach was done away with, he moved to the Winifred section where he lived for seven or eight years prior to making his home in the Danvers country.
He was 67 years of age at the time of his death. Funeral services will be held from the Creel chapel at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Alvin C. Canole of the Methodist church officiating.
