As a young child of 4 years old, David Low was orphaned along with his five siblings. He was then reared in the home of his father's sister, Martha Lee "Mattie" Low Kibler of Sardis, Mississippi. Right after graduating from Sardis High School, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps as a Private and was in the Pacific Theatre during the last two years of World War II. He met his wife, Kathreen "Kaye" Gourlie in Seattle while he was still in the service. They married shortly after the War, in 1946. They moved to Oxford, Mississippi where David attended the University of Mississippi, graduating with a degree in Pharmacy. Following his graduation, he and Kay moved first to Hot Springs, Arkansas and then later to Munster, Indiana. He eventually owned his own business, David's Pharmacy, in Munster. He and Kay had three children, Leslie, David D. Jr., and Larry Low. He and Kaye retired to Schererville, Indiana. David was diagnosed with brain cancer in April, 1999 and died a few months later.
