Darus Leighton better know as Popeye or Skinny was born November 1899 in Virginia and traveled to Indiana with his mother and grandparents in a covered wagon.His mother met and married Clarence (Pete) Armstrong around Columbus Indiana. He has three half-brothers, Thomas, William and Donald Armstrong all of Columbus. He served in the army during WWI. He first married Mildred last name unknown and had three children Bonny Cleman of Indianapolis, two sons Richard Leighton of Indianapolis and Charles Leighton of California and one step-daughter Mary Kingery of Fairland Indiana,him and Mildred divorced and he met and married Ethel Mae Chance Hall. He had one son Darus DeWayne Leighton by Ethel and two step-daughters Janet Elaine Hall and Carolyn Sue Blackwell of Arkansas, one step-son Howard Hallof California. Mr.Leighton worked at the Indiana Sailors and Soliders Childrens Orphanage Home south of Knightstown, Indiana. He died at the Veterans Hospital in Indianapolis Indiana. Services were held at Fausets Funeral Home in Knightown and is buried at Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown Indiana.
