Carl Stauss was the son of John Jack Stauss and Margaret "Mag" Moles. He was a brother of Alfred Newton Stauss.

Carl Stauss died Oct. 29, 1918, at Missoula, Mont., of pneumonia, having been ill about a week. He was born in Fairbury, April 18, 1886, being 32 years, 6 months and 11 days old at the time of his death.
Carl was raised near Fairbury where he had a host of friends. He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad Company for about eight years, leaving here last June for Missoula where he was employed by the Northern Pacific Railroad Co.
He leaves to mourn his death his mother, Mrs. Margaret Stauss, one brother, Alfred N. of Fairbury, and three sister, Mrs. C. A. Starr of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. H. W. Schrieber and Miss Louise Stauss of Fairubry.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 6, at the home, 213 Third St., conducted by Rev. J. K. Shellenberger. Interment was in the Fairbury cemetery.
