Geneva Augdahl, 93, died April 19, 2005 at Bethany Home in Alexandria.
Geneva was born in Linn Grove, Iowa on March 7, 1912 to Nichale and Ida (Gylsen) Tolifson. The family moved to Wheaton where she attended school through the 10th grade.
On October 26, 1941, Geneva married Lloyd Augdahl of Brandon. The couple raised their children on the farm, which is now a century farm.
Geneva was a wonderful cook and gardener. She would take customer orders and sell her produce. She not only worked hard on the farm, she also held employment in Brandon and the Alexandria area as a cook, waitress and she upholstered airplanes at Bellanca Aircraft. She had a gift to sew. She could design and cut out of newspaper her own patterns for the many dresses she would sew for her daughters and herself. In 1966, Geneva and Lloyd retired and moved to Minneapolis. There they both worked at the University of Minnesota. Geneva was a cashier at Shevlin Hall.
In 1978, the couple moved to Alexandria to be closer to family. Geneva took orders for doll clothes. She attended many craft fairs. She enjoyed bingo and playing cards, especially whist. She had a love of music and could play the piano by ear, even though she never took lessons. Geneva and Lloyd moved into Bethel Manor in 1995. Five years later, they moved into Bethany Community Home.
Geneva is survived by her husband, Lloyd of Alexandria; sons, Darrel (Joanne) Nelson of Glenwood, James Augdahl and fiancée, Cheryl of Brandon; daughters, Kathleen (Bernard) Thoennes of Brandon, Marilyn (Kenneth) Bitzan of Millerville, and LaVerle Richey of Walker; 35 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother-in-law, James Engstrom of Alexandria.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; son, Delray; daughter-in-law, Beverly Nelson; brother, Norman Tolifson; sisters, Viona Felton, Inez Eidem and Harriet Engstrom.
A funeral service was held April 23 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Rev. Greg Billberg and Rev. Dan Christ officiating. Interment was at Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Geneva's grandchildren, Laura Karsky, Steve Nelson, Brett Nelson, Kelly Richey, Alan Augdahl and Matthew Thoennes. Honorary pallbearers were the rest of the grandchildren. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home of Alexandria.
