Samuel Myers was born December 30, 1896, in West Union township, the son of Albert and Mattie Myers. He attended school in West Union until he was 14 years old when his family moved to Buffalo, New York. They lived there for two years then moved back to Osakis where Sam graduated from high school in 1916. He then went to Warroad, Minnesota and worked in a bank until he enlisted in the Navy and served his country during World War I. Sam was united in marriage to Hazel Hanson on August 20, 1921, a marriage that celebrated its 60th year this past August. He worked as a cashier at the First State Bank of Carlos before moving to Brandon in 1947 where he was a cashier at the Citizens State Bank until he retired at the age of 66.
Sam died at the Bethany Home April 30, 1982 at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his wife Hazel Myers of Alexandria; son Delos Myers of Winter Garden, Florida; brothers Edwin Myers of Fresno, California, Willis Myers of Modesto, California and Clarence Myers of Warroad; sisters Martha Aasland of Tucson and Emily Landin of Warroad; six grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Archie and Emmett.
Funeral services were held May 4, 1982 from Grace Lutheran Church of Brandon with Rev. Fred Gilbert officiating. Interment was in the Brandon Cemetery, Brandon, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Eugene Anderson, C. Leroy Larson, Robert Lanners, Reuben Myhr, Ole Langos, Lester Anderson and Winston Johnson. Organist was Mrs. Dennis Johnson and soloist was Tom Helder. Military honors were given by Brandon American Legion Post. Arrangements were with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
