He is remembered as a wonderful uncle by his nephew, who loved to share a meal, an ice cream and a joke or two. Always one to kid around, he would say, "Now laying all jokes aside" when he wanted to tell you something serious.
He was a dedicated son to his parents, an uncle who loved to spoil his many nieces and nephews, always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor, and a friend to all he met.

Austin I. Keys Jr., 62, of Middlebourne Star Route, West Union, died Wednesday morning at his home following a sudden illness.
He was born in West Union, a son of the late A.I. and Elsie M. Davis Keys Sr. He was a Protestant, a member of Valley Grange No. 519, the American Legion, Robinson Post No. 25 and had served with an engineer battalion during World War II.
He is survived by one sister, Emma Jean Dotson of Alexandria, VA; one brother, Benton E. Keys of Bunker Hill, WV. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Spurgeon Funeral Home, West Union, with the Rev. Bob Wilkins officiating. Burial will be in West Union Masonic Cemetery, with military rites by the Military Service Organizations of Doddridge County.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
