He was in the Army. After being discharged, his father had a heart attack. A.I. broke up with his girlfriend from Washington, DC and moved back to the farm at Keys Bend to help out. After the death of his father, he stayed at the farm to assist his mother and to care for her until her death. He never married.

He is remembered as a wonderful uncle by his nephew, who loved to share a meal, an ice cream and a joke or two. Always one to kid around, he would say, "Now laying all jokes aside" when he wanted to tell you something serious.

He was a dedicated son to his parents, an uncle who loved to spoil his many nieces and nephews, always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor, and a friend to all he met.
