He died on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at home.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1950 in Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Aguilar Sr. and a brother, Lazaro "Chango" Aguilar. Poncho was a resident of Lubbock all his life. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1970 and married Mary Ester Castillo in September of 1971. Poncho was a member of the 1960s group The Nite Walkers. He also was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a maintenance engineer for 19 years for the L.I.S.D. School District. He owned two private businesses, "A-1 Tile" and "Iron Horse" body shop. His hobbies included camping, fishing, re-building cars and collecting model airplanes.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ester Aguilar; his mother, Irene Aguilar of Lubbock; four sons, Alfonso Aguilar Jr. of Ft. Richardson, Alaska, Samuel Aguilar, Angelo Aguilar and Adrian Aguilar all of Lubbock; one sister, Dora Trevio of Lubbock; two brothers, Manuel Aguilar Jr. of Lubbock and Samuel Aguilar of Odessa. Pallbearers will be his sons, Alfonso Jr., Samuel, Angelo and Adrian Aguilar and his grandsons, Anthony, Alejandro, Alfonso III and Thomas Aguilar. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Lubbock.
