officially named the Colfax Academy. Leoti taught in Washington over 50 years.
She served as Principal and later as Whitman County superintendent of Schools.
She started writing her "reminiscenses" in the "Spokane Review" as a series of Pioneer Sketches. They were later collected and published as "The Wide Northwest".
