Mary Sarah Case Henderson, daughter of Walter and Dura Case, died at Webco Manor in Marshfield on Nov. 14, 2006 in the company of her family.
Mary Henderson was born in Olive on April 20, 1912, also her father's birthday. At the age of 8, her family moved to Elkland, where her father owned and ran a general store for many years. She graduated from Elkland High School in 1931 and attended Southwest Missouri State Teachers College and taught in Red Top. In 1932, she met Carl Henderson, the new principal and basketball coach at Elkland High School. They married in May 1933 and had a wonderful 67 years together until his death in 2000. Early in their marriage, they lived in Elkland. After briefly living in Sweet Springs, and Pleasant Hope, they settled in Moberly, for 12 years while she was very active in the local Moberly community and taught Sunday school and Bible school at the Central Christian Church.
In 1956, the Hendersons moved to Kirkwood, where Mr. Henderson was a school administrator for 17 years, and lived there for 39 years. Mary was a dynamic member of the Webster Groves Christian Church, was President of the Christian Women's Fellowship, and served in numerous state and national church groups. She was very active in volunteer activities for as long as they lived in the Kirkwood area and had a special interest in welcoming and hosting international students from around the world studying in Washington University. One of Mrs. Henderson's interests throughout her life was fashion and design. An accomplished seamstress herself, she had been known to select fabric in the morning and have a formal gown completed for an evening event.
Mr. and Mrs. Henderson moved back to Marshfield in 1995 and enjoyed being closer to their brothers and sisters who lived in the area. Mrs. Henderson always spoke of counting all of her blessings, something she did each day that she could. Her positive outlook on life and continuously joy in being with her family and friends are something that all who knew her will remember.
Mary Henderson was also preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Wivel, in 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Henderson Natale of East Meadow, N.Y.; her son, C. Case Henderson of Rockville, Md.; her sister Georgia McCall of Elkland; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 in the Marshfield Christian Church under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield. Interment was in the Timber Ridge Cemetery.
