Harold James "Jim" Hansen was born May 18, 1924 in Loomis, California and passed away January 14, 2009 in Auburn, California after a month long illness. A lifelong resident of Loomis, he was a devoted family man and hard-working volunteer for many organizations.
Jim helped on his family's fruit ranch until he joined the army in WWII, later serving in the Korean War. In civilian life, he worked as a Rural Letter Carrier in the Loomis area for 30 years. He served as president of the Rural Letter Carrier's union, was a Master Mason and an American Legion member. His passion was law enforcement. He served as a Placer County Sheriff's Reserve Deputy for more than 50 years and was a member of the Search and Rescue Communications reserve.
He was proud of his daughters and always found time to chaperone countless Del Oro Band and Rainbow Girls events. When he found some leisure time, he enjoyed trout fishing, road trips and going to 49'er games. He was a wonderful musician and singer.
Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Suzanne (Cannon) Hansen and their three daughters Nicki Reid (husband Bruce) of Loon Lake, Washington, Karen Yancey (husband John) of Spokane, Washington, and Betsy Hansen of Loomis. He had two grandsons Toby McAuliffe (wife Nicole) of Seattle, Washington and Cris Yancey of Spokane, and two great-grandchildren Keenan and Eden McAuliffe of Seattle. He is also survived by his brother Robert Hansen of Loomis and his sister Mildred Morrison of Yuba City.
A memorial gathering will be held on the afternoon of May 23, 2009 at the Masonic Hall in Penryn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Shrine Hospital for Children, the Search and Rescue Communications Reserve or any charity of your choice.
