The Naples NY Record 24 January 1894
Mrs. Park J. Stoddard.

The death angel has entered with terrible suddenness another of Abilene's happy homes and a loving wife, a beloved mother and warm hearted friend has said good-bye to earthly existence. At 7 o'clock this morning Emily Pitts Stoddard, wife of Park J. Stoddard, died at their home on East Third street. A week ago Saturday she became ill and for seven days suffered from a fever. Then pneumonia developed and despite all efforts she sank rapidly until the end came. Her husband and three children — George aged 11, Rachel 9 and Alice 8 — are left sorrowing. Her mother, who is spending the winter here, was also present at her daughter's bedside.

Mrs. Stoddard was born at Honeoye, Ontario County, N. Y., July 18,1856. In 1879 she came to Kansas with her parents and was married to Mr. Stoddard at Parsons, Sept 19,1681. In February of the next year they moved to Abilene where they have since made their home. She had four brothers, one of whom is P. B. Pitts, of this city. Charles Pitts, another brother, resides in Pratt county and is expected tomorrow. The other brothers reside in New York.

All who knew Mrs. Stoddard were her friends. Her sweet, womanly presence won for her the regard of everyone with whom she became acquainted. As a member of the First Presbyterian church her life was imbued with true Christianity and her home was made a place of Joy by her earnest, helpful, loving spirit. Deep as is the sorrow of those nearest to her, a wide circle of friends will also sincerely mourn the death of an example of noble womanhood.

A Telegram was received yesterday morning from Park J. Stoddard, of Abilene, Kas., which bore the sad news that his wife had just died of pneumonia. Mrs. Stoddard was the daughter of the late Wm. R. Pitts, of Honeoye, and well known here as a woman of lovely character. Several little children are left motherless.
