Salt Lake Tribune, The (UT) - October 30, 2002
Deceased Name: Ethel Christiansen
Ethel Verl Swallow Christiansen, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, died peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 27, 2002.

Born on Sept. 3, 1915 in Mayfield, Utah the eldest child of Ray G. Swallow and Ethel Zedonia Dorius. She married Ray S.
Christiansen on February 12, 1935 in Richfield, Utah. Later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Ethel grew up in Mayfield and while attending Manti High she starred in a number of musical productions. Her love of music included playing the piano and singing in church choirs. While growing up, Ethel worked occasional summers at a family ranch in Nevada. She attended Snow College for one year prior to her marriage. Of the jobs that she worked, her favorite was the China Dept. at ZCMI (SLC), so much so that she didn't retire until she was 75. She belonged to a Sewing Club in her younger years and later joined The Tourista Club with many of her friends from ZCMI, which provided opportunities to travel around Utah.

Her "Depression-Days-Born" frugality, which she rigidly applied to herself was the exact opposite of the generosity she extended to her family and friends. Sunday family dinners are just one of our treasured memories. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church and held some church positions.

Preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Edith, a brother, Raymond and her parents. Survived by her brother, Doyle Swallow, Kanab; sisters, Donna Gowans and Fay Jurgensen, both of Arizona. Also survived by her daughter, Myrna (George) Broschinsky of Murray; sons, Ray (Bobbie) of Bountiful and Lee of Colorado; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 1, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main where friends may call from 11:30 - 12:30 p.m. prior to services.
