Funeral services for Rudy Arredondo, 58, of Lamesa, will be held on Monday, May 24, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Lamesa with Father Joseph Kurumbel and Father Rudy Crasta officiating.

Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home.

Rosary was to be said on Saturday, May 22, and Sunday, May 23, 2010, at 7 p.m., at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.

Rudy died on Thursday, May 20, 2010 in Lamesa. He was born on August 29, 1951 in Lamesa to Nieves and Lasaro Arredondo. He married Silvia Lopez on June 17, 1972. They were married for 38 years. He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1969 and from Texas Tech University in May of 1992 with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Education.

Rudy coached sports and taught at Lamesa High School from August of 1996 until May of 2006. He served on the Selective Service Board from 1984 until 2009 and was also a commissioner in Precinct No. 1 for one term from 1984-1988. Rudy was the first Hispanic elected to City Council in Lamesa. He owned and operated Arredondo Construction.

Rudy was passionate about his grandchildren and was a loving husband and father.

Survivors include his wife, Silvia Arredondo of Lamesa; sons, Javier Lopez Arredondo of Lamesa, Adrian Arredondo of Lamesa and Christopher Lee Arredondo of Fort Stockton; his parents, Nieves and Lasaro Arredondo of Lamesa; grandchildren, Victoria Arredondo, Marcus Arredondo, Noah Arredondo, Elias Arredondo, Adrian Arredondo Jr. and Jacqueline Arredondo; sisters, Gloria Mireles and husband, Manuel, of Surprise, Ariz., Juanita Arredondo of New Braunfels and Nieves Medeiros and husband, Steve, of Benson, Ariz., Domitila Martinez of Lamesa and Rosa Arredondo of Chandler, Ariz.; brothers, Lorenzo Arredondo and wife, Bertha, of Odessa, Eddie Arredondo and wife, Lourdes, of Boynton Beach, Fla., Lasaro Arredondo and wife, Cindy, of Prosper and Gilbert Arredondo and wife, Sally of Wolfforth; his in-laws, Dora Lopez and the late Flabio Lopez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rudy is preceded in death by his son, Justin Arredondo.
