Dean Arnold, 68,dies at Fort Wayne

Dean Arnold, 68, of Fort Wayne, prominent in Lutheran church affairs, died suddenly Friday morning at 6:30 a.m. at his home at 6501 Reed Road.

Mr. Arnold graduated from Valparaiso University in 1926 and worked in Fort Wayne as a pharmacist for several years prior to founding the Central States Supply Co. in 1945. He retired in 1967.

Mr. Arnold was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran church, Fort Wayne, and was active in Lutheran church affairs. He was a member of the board of directors of Valparaiso University from 1948-1966, and treasurer of the Lutheran hospital board of directors from 1948-60. He was a member of the Indiana Pharmaceutical Association.

He was born in Stockville, Nebraska, on Feb. 13, 1904, the son of Henry and Raechel Smith-Arnold, and was married to Ruth Boerger on Feb. 13, 1927.

Surviving are his wife; four children, Hugh R. of Mariemont, O.; Mrs. Kenneth (Nina) Bruns of Fort Wayne; Mrs. Jerry (Barbara) Knippa of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. David (Sandra) Hawk of Bloomington; one sister, Mrs. Carl (Wilda) Sawyer of Torrington, Wyoming; one brother, Cletus Arnold of LaGrange, Wyoming; and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the St. Paul Lutheran church, with Rev. Edwin Nerger officiating. Burial will be in the Concordia Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Mungovan & Sons funeral home Lakeside chapel, Fort Wayne, after 7 p.m. tonight and until 10 a.m. Monday. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. Monday until time of the services. Preferred memorials are to the St. Paul Lutheran church or Valparaiso University.

The Zwick funeral home is in charge of all arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Carlton Kruse, Edgar Kruse, Herbert Wesling, Red Saxer, Norbert Bruick and Harold Bleeke.
