Born in Kentucky, Mrs. Asher had lived at Cooter for the past 15 years. She made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Buck Burns.
In addition to Mrs. Burns, she is survived by two other daughters and two sons, Mrs. Mary Juel Lawson, Ruel Asher and Mirvil Asher, all of Cooter, and Mrs. Lloyd Boothe of Memphis, Tenn.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Mattie Asher, 76, of Cooter, who died Tuesday morning after an illness of a complication of diseases. The services were at the Baptist Church by Rev. T.C. Thorp, former pastor of the Cooter Baptist Church, with interment at the Mount Zion cemetery.
Mrs. Asher was born at Clay, Ky., but had lived at Cooter for more than fifty years, and she and her husband, the late H.C. Asher, were among the earliest settlers of this town.
She had been an active member of the Baptist Church for a number of years and was a charter member of the Rebecca Lodge since it was organized at Cooter.
Surviving her are five children, Mrs. Alpha Burns, Ruel and Mewl Asher and Mrs. Mary Jewel Lawson and Mrs. Macie Booth of Memphis, and also five grandchildren.
