"George Russell Barker, 94, of 1002 E. Hwy. 94, Durham, died Monday, May 10, 1999, in the Treyburn Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Barker was a native of Lincoln County and was the son of the late Thomas Leroy Barker and his wife Laura J Settlemyer. He was married to the late Willie Mae Beck Barker who died February 21, 1999. He was a retired machinist with Sperry-Rand Corporation and was a member of the Lowe's Grove Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved gardening.
Surviving are one son, George W. and Katie Yarboro Barker of Roxboro; one sister, Barbara Barker Harrison of Autreyville; 2 grandchildren, Kimberly Barker Westbrooks of Chapel Hill and Mary Elizabeth Barker of Durham; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A memorial graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Lowe's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery."
