Reverend Dr. John Henry Propst, Jr., of Olar, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, May 19, 2010.
He was born on June 11, 1921, in Columbia, the son of the late John Henry Propst, Sr. and Roberta Cooper Propst.
Rev. Propst was a former resident of Aiken S.C. and graduated from Aiken High School. Henry was a graduate of Clemson University, class of 1943.
He was a WW II veteran severing in the U.S. Army for 3 years.
Rev. Propst graduated from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in 1953 with a BD degree and in 1962 with a ThD degree. He served as pastor at the following churches; First Baptist Church of Highlands, NC, First Baptist Church of John's Island, SC (24 years), Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and Allen's Chapel Baptist Church in Barnwell, SC and Govan Baptist Church of Govan, SC.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Johnson Propst; his daughter, Linda P. Stutts and husband Lee of Springfield, SC; three grandsons, Steven Lee Stutts, MSgt John Scott Stutts and wife Amberlea and GySgt Daniel James Stutts and wife Christine; three great-grandsons; a brother, Wyatt Propst and wife Anne of Monck's Corner; his stepmother, Edith W. Propst of Aiken and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves two stepsons, Robert Johnson and Edgar Johnson and two stepdaughters, Sherry Gooding and Evelyn Negri.
He was predeceased by is first wife, Mary A. Propst and his second wife, Jean B. Propst and a brother Robert C. Propst.
Interment was in Barnwell County Memory Gardens.
