Emma was born in the Nisga'a First Nation, exact location not specificed other than "Nass River" as was her younger sister, Amelia Marie Elstermann Dewhurst. There is also unclear information about her father's immigration from USA to BC CAN. Suffice it to say that Friedrich Wilhelm Berndt Elstermann von Elster was her accepted father and raised her with love and care. She lived at Moor's or Standard Cove with her parent, sister and adopted brother in 1901. She married Edward Aaron Hudson in 1904 at Port Essington in her Aunt's home. They lived in Port Essington and on Porcher Island (postal district Refuge Bay) near the Crete Islands, then moved to Prince Rupert by 1921. Together they had eight children, two were girls.

Emma suffered of sigmoid and rectum carcinoma (46 c), A colostromy was performed at the Prince Rupert General Hospital on 23 Sep 1930 and she died there on the 9 Dec 1930.

A mantle (cloak) that she made with extensive beading upon it was donated by Matilda Hudson to the Burnaby Heritage Village Museum. It is stored in their vaults but, sorrowfully, is now threads and beads. The curator there spoke of a possibility of having it restored should we be able to show where she was educated as they suspect the work is a marriage of native style and european style beading.
