South Bloomfield, N. Y. - Margaret Vance Hicks, widow of the late Benjamin F. Hicks of the town of Bristol, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George A. Wheeler, Wednesday p.m., Jan. 25. Mrs. Hicks was born in Pennsylvania, Nov. 25, 1821. She was married Oct. 22, 1845, and became a resident of Bristol, where she lived until 18 years ago. After the death of her husband, she came to live with her daughter, where she remained until called to her final home. The funeral was held on Saturday from the Universalist church, Bristol, Rev. G. F. Babbitt officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Besides her daughter, Mrs. George A. Wheeler, she leaves four grandchildren, Mrs. Oscar B. Johnson of Canandaigua, Ralph Hicks Wheeler of Ithaca, Margaret Vance Wheeler and Leah Cornell Wheeler of East Bloomfield; and three great grandchildren. Although in her 90th year, Mrs. Hicks was a bright and interesting woman, cheerful and appreciative of the tender and loving care she received during her declining years. When the recipient of some dainty from a friend, she remarked, "O", if I were to live my life over, I would be kinder to everybody." This meant much, as her hands were always busy doing for others. Her ear was quick to hear the mind and heart active to respond. Her door was always open to those in need of home and care. The aged, the poor and the orphans have shared her home and blessed is the memory among all who knew her.
