Tired of waiting in the doorway, Lucile Evans Hofheins, stepped through and joined her husband, and other family members in the eternities on May 19, 2010. She said, "I never wanted to live to be 90", and so she left this earth at age 89.

Lucile was born September 20, 1920 to William Leonard Evans and Alberta Ann Ward Evans in Parowan, Utah. She was one of six children and grew up in Parowan. She graduated from Parowan High School and went on to attend Dixie College for one year before marrying Ora Cleve Hofheins in the Manti Temple on September 20, 1939. They became the parents of six children.

Lucile lived a life of service service to her husband, to her children, and to her Church. She served as a stake missionary early in her married life, She served in the primary (Which was probably her greatest love), and in the Relief Society Presidency for many years. This service included teaching and in leadership positions. She was a dedicated visiting teacher and taught her children that dependability was one of the most important attributes a person could have. She used to say, "I may not be the best primary teacher in the world, but I'm always there." Her children knew that she was always there for them too.

Always an excellent cook, her specialties were: hot rolls, pies, candy (penuche and divinity especially), and her ever famous Baker's Secret chocolate cake topped with her special caramel icing. For many years this cake was on the serving table for almost every funeral in town. It was discovered that in some instances only half of the cake was served to the family while the other half was conveniently forgotten and left in the kitchen for the serving crew. Over her life time, Lucile pieced, quilted, and tied countless quilts. She never kept track of how many, but she doesn't have one left in her house. They were made for neighbors, brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren. Every one of her children and grandchildren has been given a quilt. Those quilts were works of art which she gladly shared with others.

Prayer was a cornerstone of her life. She once said she hoped Heavenly Father didn't get tired of listening to her petitions for her family, and any time one of her children or grandchildren survived a close call, they knew it was because Grandma was praying for them. She was an excellent example of a dedicated and caring wife and mother and was very proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.

Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Betty Byrge, two granddaughters, Francis and Stacey Byrge, a grandson, Keegan Hofheins, sisters Pearl Evans, Afton Perry, and Alberta Kartchner and one brother Orland Evans.

She is survived by children, Janet (Kimball) Weaver of Cedar City, Bernell (Starr) Hofheins of Pleasant Grove, Joyce Alsup, Donna (Tony) Schmid, Kent (Kari) Hofheins all of Beaver, one brother Bernell (Maxine) Evans of South Salt Lake, a sister-in-law Bella Evans of Orem, 25 grandchildren & 52 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11:00AM in the Beaver LDS 3rd Ward Chapel. Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Church form 9:30AM to 10:30AM. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Beaver Care Center for the tender, loving care
given to their mother during the last four months of her life.
