Mrs. Bertie Iola Harmon, 206 Fair Street, Calhoun, died Wednesday at 1:26 p.m. in the Gordon Hospital following an illness of two days. Mrs. Harmon was born in Kaufman, Texas, a daughter of the late J. E. and Lola Borders Strickland, but had spent the greater part of her life in Calhoun and Gordon County. She was a member of the Calhoun First United Methodist Church, the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class and was a member of the Sequoyah Chapter 296, Order of the Eastern Star. Prior to her retirement she had been associated with the Gordon Hospital as a nurses aid for several years. Mrs. Harmon was married to the late C. H. Harmon who died in October 1950. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank T. Strickland in 1953 and Ed T. Strickland in 1958. Survivors include a sister Mrs. Lillie Barton of Rte. 1, Rydal; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Friday at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of the Combs & Free Funeral Home with Revs. Emory Brackman and Luther Porter officiating. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Pallbearers serving included Max Strickland, Larry Harmon, Dr. Farrell Palmer, Jack Haney, Bill Robertson, Joe Boston, Stanley Geraldson and Charles Gaines.
