Various name spellings: In family papers written by her daughter Christine (Ruby) (my Great-Aunt), Almeda's name is spelled as "Alemeda" and "Alameda." In Census records, Almeda is variously listed as "A.A.," "Artimissi A. Gipson," and on the back of one family photo she is listed as "Alameda Artimeca Gipson." Also according to family history from Almeda's daughters Aline and Christine (Ruby), Almeda's husband George ran off and left the family, leaving them destitute. They were living in a dug-out, and Almeda's son, James (Jim) dropped out of school to go to work as a school bus driver to support the remaining younger family. Almeda's daughter, Aline, dropped out of school to look after her younger siblings, Lillie Mae and Christine (Ruby).

In 2014 I received the following information from BobbyC (#47720595) -

As a side note: Almeda's father was William S Gipson and her mother was Mary Price Gipson; after doing a little digging I found the grave of Artimissy Osborn Gipson, # 32462773 who married and divorced Jessie Gipson who was from Tennessee as was William S. I don't believe they were brothers but may have been cousins. Almeda was probably named after Artimissy Osborn Gipson.

Thanks,
BobbyC
