According to Meeting the Train (history of Hagerman, NM, compiled by the Historical Society), Captain Brown served in Anderson's Brigade and was wounded at the second battle of Bull Run. He was also a Texas State Senator and Judge. After Captain Brown was injured in the 1900 Galveston Flood, he and Mrs. Brown moved to Hagerman to be near their son, Milton Brown, Jr.
