Sr. Chief Gunners Mate, USN (Ret.), Marvin Dale Albaugh

Marvin Albaugh was born on July 19, 1941 in Joliette, ND to Earl and Lowella Albaugh. Marvin's mother passed away when he was 2 years old and he was raised by his Aunt Irene and Uncle Clarence Albaugh.

Marvin attended school in Grand Forks and was a member of the Grand Forks swim team. In 1959 he joined the United States Navy and remained on active duty for 26 years. Marvin loved the Navy and was proud to be able to serve his country. He served 7 tours of duty in Viet Nam. Marv was a Senior Chief Gunners Mate when he became a diabetic and was not allowed to go to sea again, so he served as the disability counselor at Great Lakes Naval Hospital for 10 years until his retirement in 1985. In his career, Marv had been awarded sailor of the month 7 times.

Marvin and Judy Lund met and were married May 17, 1975 in Alexandria, MN where, at the time, Marv was doing a tour of duty as a recruiter for the Navy. After moving to New York Mills, Marv worked for Offutts for 7 years.

Marvin was a member of the V.F.W., Lion's Club, FRA for 28 years and he was president for 1 year and was a member of the DAV. Marvin was also a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was baptized into membership in 1992.

Last Wednesday, July 26, 2000, Marvin passed away at home at the age of 59 years, having just celebrated his birthday one week earlier. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Preceding Marv in death were his parents, Earl and Lowella, his Aunt Irene and Uncle Clarence; a sister, Verna Winter; a step-daughter, Deborah Matthews and a grandson, T. Richard Anderson.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Judy; 2 sisters: Evelyn Albaugh and Virginia (Martin) Hagerty; 3 brothers: Earl (Joanne), Tom (Mary), and Dean (Sharon); a step-sister: Marie (Les) Koth; a brother-in-law: Duane Winter; 3 step-children: Gordy (Barb) Lund, Kerstin Malmede and Jerry and Laurie (Rod) Wendt; 10 grandchildren; his father-in-law, G. Howard (Stella) Lund and many other loving relatives and friends.

Marv loved life, people, animals and enjoyed living in the peaceful town of New York Mills. He will be sadly but lovingly missed. He's at peace now!

Blessed by the memory of Marvin Dale Albaugh!
