ABSTRACT Died May 11, 1922. At the California hospital at Los Angeles. Born in
Missouri in 1861, she went with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Ash, and
brothers James and Doc to Colorado in 1878. She taught school there for two
years. In 1881 the family moved to Old Colson, later known as Billings, Mont.,
where she organized the first school, helping raise money for the schoolhouse
and her first year's salary. She taught there until she married Samuel Garvin in
1882. In 1905 she came to Long Beach with her daughter, invalid mother, and
brother, and they bought a home at 830 Chestnut Ave., where they wintered for
many years. Her mother died there in 1918 and they moved to 2408 E. 1st St.,
where brother James L. Ash died in 1920. She then accompanied her daughter
Priscilla to Stanford university, where she lived until her recent illness
brought her to Los Angeles for medical care.
