Husband of Elizabeth H Richmond.

Clinton, Ill, April 29-(Special)-Clifton H. Moore died today after a brief illness, aged 84. For half a century he has been a leading lawyer in central Illinois. In early life, he traveled the circuit with Abraham Lincoln. Moore was one of the largest land owners in the west. He leaves an estate valued at $2,000,000.
Mr. Moore was widely known throughout central Illinois. He was the first of eight children born to Mr. & Mrs. Isaac Moore of Half Moon, Saratoga county, N.Y. Isaac Moore was the son of a soldier of the revolution and was a remarkable man in many respects, living to an advanced age. At the age of 90, he could mount a horse unassisted and at 93 walked 15 miles in half a day. The Moores came from English stock and were always noted for strong mentality and vigorous constitutions. The family moved to Kirkland, Lake county, Ohio where C.H. Moore received his education. During a portion of his residence in that section he was engaged in teaching. At the age of 21 years, he came to Illinois and located at Pekin, landing there with less than $5 in his pocket. He studied law in the office of Bayley & Wilmot and was admitted to practice in 1841. In the same year, he took up his residence in DeWitt county. He recognized the fact that Illinois land, then cheap, would some day be of great value and in 1852, he became associated with David Davis in the purchase of land.
Politically, he was a Whig and then a Republican. In 1870, he was a member of the constitutional convention.
His first wife was Miss Elizabeth Richmond of Tremont, Tazewell county, to whom he was married August 14, 1845. Four children were born to the couple, his son, Arthur, being the only one surviving.
His first wife died May 30, 1871 in in July 1873, he was married to Miss Rose Oustine, who survives him.
