Daniel was the fourth son of Arnold and Atharada Angel, born in Richfield Township. His father having died in 1855, Daniel enlisted from Richfield Township at the age of 20 to support his family. He and his unit occupied Munfordsville, Tennesee from 10 December 1861 until early February, 1862. The regiment then advanced to Bowling Green, Kentucky and Nashville, Tennessee. In March 1863,they marched to Savannah, Tennessee and saw action in the Battle of Shiloh. In April,they laid siege to Corinth, Mississippi and from there marched to Battle Creek, Alabama. They pursued General Bragg back to Louisville, Kentucky and from there to Lawrenceburg and from there to Dog Walk. The unit marched to Nashville, Tennesse and saw duty there till 26 December 1862. They then went to Murfreesboro late in December and fought at the Battle of Stone's River on December 30 to 31. Daniel saw duty at Murfreesboro and died there probably of disease in February 1863.
