Son of son of Robert (Big Robin) Goad and Alley Durnell

Wesley was in the County Militia, then joined Co G, 54th Va Regmet, CSA on 14 May 1862.

In 1864 he was imprisoned as a rebel deserter by the Federal Army in Knoxville, and later sent to Jeffersonville, Ind, where he took the oath of allegiance to the Union, and was released under condition that he not go south of the Ohio River for the duration of the war.
