Clara Elizabeth Bentzel, 86, formerly of 25212 Cascade Road, Cascade, Md., died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, in Western Maryland Hospital Center, Hagerstown. She was critically ill for two weeks. Born Feb. 11, 1911, in Thurmont, Md., she was a daughter of the late George and Nora Miller Wierman. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Sabillasville, Md., and its Ladies Guild. Mrs. Bentzel also was a member of Thurmont Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons; AARFs National division; and the Maryland Classified Employees Association. She and Harold L. Bentzel were married on April 19, 1929. They lived in Detour, Md., then in 1935 moved to Sabillasville. He died March 18, 1968. In 1990, she moved in with her daughter, Linda Ann Harty of Cascade, who died in August 1997. Mrs. Bentzel entered the center in December 1993. Surviving are two grandchildren, Shanda Eyler and Shane Harty, both of Cascade; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lelia Fogle and Vada Waterfield, both of Waynesboro; Anna Hap-pel of Baltimore; and Helen Lantz of Lantz, Md.; nieces; and nephews. She also was preceded in death by a sister in 1996 and a brother in 1955. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. David Denham will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call one hour before the service in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Western Maryland Hospital Center Auxiliary, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.
