Bruce Garver, the manager of this Memorial, began to compose the following "bio" of Jesse Anthony (1839-1918) on July 3, 2023, and would be pleased to receive suggestions for its improvement.

Jesse Anthony was born on October 12, 1839, in Clayton County, George, to James M. Anthony (1812-1859) and Lucinda "Lue" (Lassister) Anthony (1816-1907). Jesse's one known sibling is sister May Anthony, seven years his senior. Other siblings have yet to be discovered; and the location of the grave of Jesse's and May's father, James M. Anthony (1812-1859), has not yet been ascertained.

During the American Civil War, Jesse Anthony served the Confederacy as a Lieutenant in Company "I" of the 30th Georgia Regiment, often called the "Clayton County Invincibles".

Four years after the Civil War, during the year 1869, Jesse Anthony wed Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ward (Anthony (1842–1903), daughter of NAMES of PARENTS. Together, Jesse Anthony wed Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Ward) Anthony raised four children whose Memorials are linked below to each other and to those of their parents, Jesse & Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Ward) Anthony: (1) Josephine (Anthony) Fountain (1870–1958),
(2) Cora Belle Anthony (1873–1951),
(3) Mary Eva (Anthony) Hamrick (1878–1972), and
(4) Jesse Anthony, Jr. (1883–1948).

Jesse Anthony died at the age of seventy-nine on December 13, 1918, at Atlanta in DeKalb County, George. Several days later, Jesse was interred at the Jonesboro City Cemetery in Jonesboro, Clayton County, Georgia.
