A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, May 1, at St. Mary’s Church, Clinton, Iowa, for Frank Cornwell, 71, a former Rolfe resident, who died Wednesday, April 29, at Clinton. Interment was in the National Cemetery, Baltimore, Md.

Mr. Cornwell, a former field agent inspector for the U.S. Treasury Department, was born on Sept. 21, 1909, in Gilmore City, the son of James and Emma Pohl Cornwell. He was a 1928 graduate of Rolfe High School and served as class president.

After a 1939 marriage to Madeline A. Cogger, Mr. Cornwell farmed with his father in the Rolfe area. He was also employed at the Rolfe State Bank. A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Cornwell and his wife moved to Baltimore after the birth of their first child. Mr. Cornwell became a federal government employee while living in Baltimore and retired in 1978 after spending 38 years with the Treasury Department. Mrs. Cornwell died Feb. 12, 1950. Mr. Cornwell moved to Clinton in 1961.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cornwell was preceded in death by his father; an infant sister, Lucy; sister, Mary Larson; and a brother, Donald.

He is survived by two sons, Francis, of Camanche, and Bruce, of Madison, Wisc.; his mother, Mrs. Emma Cornwell of Rolfe; four brothers, Leo, of Baltimore; Ralph and Gerald, both of Rolfe; and Gene, of Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Veronica Manary and Marcella Newman, both of San Diego, Calif.
