William D. Chinn
Farmer and stock raiser, Sec. 36, P.O. Berdan, was born Sept. 22, 1825 , in Tennessee; married Jan. 30, 1855, to Mary Ann Dodgson, who was born in 1837, having one child, Charles M., born June 12, 1858, who died Feb. 20, 1859. After death of his first wife, he was married to Abiah Dodgson Sept. 19, 1865; she died Sept. 11, 1878. By this marriage two children, George W., born June 25, 1866, and Christopher D., born May 17, 1870.
The subject of this sketch, at the age of twenty-one, started in life with a horse, which he sold for $75, and loaned $25 of the money to the man who bought the horse, then took his note for $100. He then bought an interest in a threshing machine, which he run for a number of years. He now owns 487 acres of land.
The father of the subject of this sketch, James Chinn, born July 22, 1794, died Jan. 17, 1853; married Nov. 4, 1821, to Miss Sallie Williams, who was born Feb. 9, 1805; had ten children; emigrated from North Carolina to Greene County, Ill., in 1829, and entered 120 acres of land from the government.
