Bonnie (Standefer) Carothers, 86, of Waco, Texas, passed away at St. Catherine's Centery on Saturday, May 15, 2010. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Austin Avenue in Waco, with Rev. Jimmie Johnson presiding. Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery, Clifton, Texas.
Bonnie Adele was born in Valley Mills, Texas, to the late F. Parker and Verna Shaw Shafer. She graduated in 1941 from Valley Mills High School as valedictorian and attended Clifton College. On Dec. 11, 1943, she married J.L. Standefer, Jr., and after his death, she married G. C. Carothers, Jr. on March 18, 1976. She lived in Clifton from 1943 to 1976, in Stamford from 1976 to 2005, and in Waco until her death. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton and a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Stamford. Bonnie was active in numerous charitable, religious, and civic organizations, and a member of the Joy Bridge Club in Clifton. She was extremely dedicated to her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, J.L., on Dec. 9, 1973; and her second husband, G.C., on Jan. 13, 2003.
Survivors include her son, James Brent Standefer and wife, Kay, of Austin and Waco; daughter, Bonnie Standifer Wilbur and husband, Warren, of New Hope, Pa.; and grandsons, James Brent Stadefer, Jr., of Austin, and William David Standefer, of Fort Worth.
