LAWTON, Iowa -- William John Barnable, 81, of rural Lawton died Friday, May 14, 2010, at Sunrise Retirement Community Nursing Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary B. Snyder, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. William was born May 12, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of John and Ethel (Angove) Barnable. He attended country school and then graduated from Lawton High School. He was a lifelong resident of the Lawton area. William served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1956. He farmed on the family farm for most of his life.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He enjoyed reading about the newest information on farming in farm magazines. He also learned how to repair his farm machinery.

Survivors include his sister, Joyce Barnable of Lawton, in addition to several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Flammang, Lloyd Rohmiller, Ken Rohmiller, Dale Oehlerking, Paul Strong and Richard Karrer. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Rentel, Ed Flammang and Charles Oehlerking.
