Pvt. Keisler served in WWI with the 17th Co. 20th Engineers. On 5 February 1918 the troopship "Tuscania" was torpedoed by a German submarine UB-77 in the North Channel between Scotland and Ireland near the isle of Islay. 210 lives were lost as a result of the sinking ship; Pvt. Keisler was one of over 1.,800 survivors and went on to serve until the end of WWI.
He was the husband of Willena Mae (Fitzgerald) and Lola Alleen (Baldwin) respectively. He and Mae had four sons: Leo Jr, Ray Sanders, Thomas Earl and Baby Boy. With Lola he fathered Stella Mae, Gloria Sue "Betty", Jesse Baldwin, Lawrence Allen and Lana Alleen.
